Palace urges youth to practice critical thinking online

The administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged Filipino youth to practice critical thinking and be more discerning about what they read online.

During the “Usap Tayo, Bayan Muna” forum at Centro Escolar University (CEU) Manila, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro engaged junior and senior high school students in discussions on nationalism and current issues.

“As the President said, he would not surrender even an inch of the Philippines. However, he needs our help — he needs the Filipino people,” Castro told the CEU Manila community in Filipino.

“To us and the youth: Be critical about what you read online, revive the nationalism in our hearts, stand for the country, and stand for the truth,” she added.

When asked if they were willing to sacrifice for the country in their own way, the students responded affirmatively with a resounding “yes.”

The Palace Press Officer said the forum continues to strengthen youth participation in national discourse, from the responsible use of information to active involvement in programs that seek to improve the country’s future.

“This is why we need to revive nationalism in your hearts, especially among the youth. Carry this with you until you grow old. We only have one country, it can’t disappear,” Castro said.

“We need to be Filipinos in all circumstances. We have a duty as youth. We owe it to heroes, what we cherish today… Let us not surrender our freedom,” she concluded.
