Gov’t allots P89m to build new Kamuning footbridge, EDSA Busway concourse

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Thursday announced the construction start of the new and modern EDSA Busway Kamuning Concourse worth P89.12 million.

It said the concourse would feature a well-maintained, pedestrian-friendly walkway and will be equipped with wheelchair lifts to assist commuters, senior citizens and people with disabilities.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in June ordered the removal of the steep Mt. Kamuning footbridge that is difficult for pedestrians and passengers to climb.

DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said the new footbridge would be installed at the EDSA Busway Kamuning Station and will be modeled after the SM North Concourse.

“When the president saw it, he was really disappointed. He said pedestrians and commuters should not be made to suffer, so he immediately ordered the removal of this Mt. Kamuning,” Dizon said.

“The president said, our commuters can’t wait any longer. They have been suffering for a long time so we will expedite its construction,” said Dizon.

Dizon said the construction would not disturb commuters and motorists because the materials would be pre-fabricated.

The new EDSA Kamuning Busway Station and footbridge will include mobility and accessibility features to facilitate pedestrian crossing and bus boarding, the agency said.

It is expected to be completed by December 2025.
