Korean boy group Seventeen’s leader S.Coups marked his birthday by donating 50 million won (about $36,160) to help children from low-income families in South Korea.
On Thursday, Aug. 7, the Community Chest of Korea said that the K-pop idol’s contribution will provide meal support for children at risk of going hungry during the summer break. The funds will also aid local children’s centers nationwide to promote the healthy growth of youth from vulnerable backgrounds.
With the donation, S.Coups became the 3,710th member of the Honor Society, a group of the organization’s major benefactors.
“Thanks to the love from my fans, my birthday is remembered as a special day for me every year. To express my gratitude, I wanted to give back some of the love I have received to society. I support the healthy growth of all children and youth,” S.Coups said in a statement.
S.Coups, whose real name is Choi Seungcheol, turned 30 today, Aug. 8.
