Filipino tourist dies in Hong Kong taxi crash—DFA

A 35-year-old Filipino tourist died from injuries in a vehicular accident in Tsuen Wan West, Hong Kong on Tuesday, August 5, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has confirmed.

An 11-second video of the incident posted online by local media showed a taxi accelerating towards the victim and pinning him to a column outside a hotel.

The taxi driver, aged 80, felt dizzy and lost control of his vehicle, and also sustained injuries from the crash.

“The Consulate General offers its deepest condolences to the deceased’s family and prays for his eternal rest,” the DFA said.

The taxi driver involved in the accident is already in police custody while the Filipino tourist’s body is with the Kwai Chung Public Mortuary.

The DFA said the Consulate General is currently assisting the family of the deceased and is anticipating their arrival in Hong Kong to arrange the shipment of the victim’s remains.
