A 50-year-old Israeli national was arrested at Ninoy Aquino International Airport for allegedly carrying disassembled firearm parts and live ammunition in his checked-in luggage.
The Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group (PNP-Avsegroup) discovered the disassembled firearm parts, including a 5.56 mm rifle, a .22-caliber revolver frame and cylinder, a .45-caliber magazine, and boxes of live ammunition at the baggage build-up area of NAIA Terminal 3 on Thursday.
An alert X-ray operator detected an image resembling a firearm during routine screening.
The foreigner failed to produce any legal documents, prompting the police to place him under arrest.
The foreigner and confiscated items were brought to NAIA Police Station 3 for further investigation and the filing of appropriate charges.
NAIA authorities are reminding passengers not to bring firearms, amulets, gun replicas, and similar items to avoid delays and inconvenience during flights.
They advise travelers to secure necessary documents, particularly a permit to transport from the PNP, when carrying guns and ammunition during their trips.
The Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO) of the PNP is responsible for providing clearances to passengers who wish to travel with firearms and ammunition, airport authorities pointed out.
