Makati Mayor Nancy Binay on Thursday announced that the local government unit (LGU) is working with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to improve mass transportation systems in the city.
The announcement came a day after DOTr officials, led by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, visited Makati City Hall, where both parties discussed collaborative opportunities to address the city’s transportation challenges.
“Makati is exploring how to support the DOTr’s initiatives, including the Metro Manila Subway project construction, improvements to the Pasig River ferry system, and rehabilitation of Makati’s Philippine National Railway stations,” Binay said.
The partnership aims to improve traffic flow to and from Makati while making transportation more convenient for the public.
“Because of people working in the central business district, Makati’s daytime population balloons to 3.2 to 4.2 million people. We need to find the best way to transport these people,” Binay explained.
Key officials, including City Public Safety Officer Police Brig. Gen. Rodelio Jocson, Transportation Undersecretary for Railways Timothy John Batan, City General Services Department Officer-in-Charge Carleen Yap-Villa, and City Engineer William Hong, attended the meeting.
“Makati is serious in its commitment to provide the best transport systems to the people. We look forward to working with the DOTr in this endeavor,” Binay said.
