The Manila City Government is seeking the Senate’s assistance in its financial recovery efforts amid the capital city’s near-bankrupt status.
In a statement after visiting the Senate on Wednesday, Manila Vice Mayor Chi Atienza explained the matter is “urgent” as the city inherited a debt amounting to P10.2 billion from the previous administration.
“Many senators are going to help Manila… As Mayor Isko Moreno would say, even if our capacity to help is limited, we will still find a way to collaborate so that the help will be continuous,” she said.
Atienza, the city council’s presiding officer, vowed full support to Domagoso’s bid in delivering minimum basic needs (MBNs) to the public despite financial challenges.
She stressed that the city refuses to be paralyzed by the crisis, noting they will continually seek support in education, health, and livelihood programs.
Likewise, other priority programs also include mental health support and programs for vulnerable families.
Among the lawmakers to whom Atienza sought help were Senator Bong Go, Senator Win Gatchalian, Senator Risa Hontiveros, Senator Imee Marcos, Senator Camille Villar, and Senator Mark Villar.
The vice mayor pledged to develop these partnerships in pursuing practical and effective solutions for every Manileño.
