Storms damage P9.5b infra,  P1.9b crops

The combined effects of tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong, along with the southwest monsoon or Habagat, have caused more than P1.9 billion in agricultural damage across several regions, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Wednesday.

According to its Situational Report No. 26, dated July 30, the agency reported that agricultural losses reached P1,960,474,286, affecting 66,989 farmers and fisherfolk nationwide.

Central Luzon (Region 3) bore the brunt of the damage, incurring losses amounting to P1.1 billion.

Other severely affected areas include MIMAROPA (Region 4B) with P190.4 million in damages, Ilocos Region (Region 1) with P155.8 million, CALABARZON (Region 4A) with P146.7 million, and the Negros Island Region with P97.2 million.

Additional losses were recorded in Western Visayas (Region 6) at P83.2 million; Cagayan Valley (Region 2) with P76.4 million; Soccsksargen (Region 12) at P58.7 million; and Bicol Region (Region 5) with P44.9 million.

Meanwhile, infrastructure damage was pegged at P9.5 billion, with affected areas spanning Regions 1, 2, 3, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), 4A, 4B, 5, 6, the Negros Island Region, and Region 10.

The NDRRMC also reported that 37,557 houses were damaged in multiple regions, including the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), with assessment and validation efforts still ongoing.

Nationwide, the storms and monsoon rains affected over 2 million families, or approximately 7.5 million individuals. Of these, more than 32,000 families—equivalent to 113,438 people—sought shelter in 1,145 evacuation centers, while nearly 24,000 families were served outside evacuation facilities.

The official death toll stands at 34, although only two have been fully validated as of this report. Authorities are still confirming 32 others. Seven individuals remain missing, and 22 were reported injured.

The NDRRMC emphasized that figures may change pending ongoing verification efforts.
