The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has distributed food and non-food relief items worth P30.41-million to communities affected by heavy rains and flooding in various parts of the country.
According to PAGCOR, a total of 33,250 relief packs—comprising 17,000 food packs and 16,250 non-food items—were distributed to several local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
“As millions in Metro Manila and other provinces suffer from torrential rains and floods triggered by the southwest monsoon and tropical storms, we quickly mobilized our relief operations teams,” said PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco.
“As the government’s partner in nation-building, we are morally and duty-bound to come to the aid of Filipinos in times of need, and that includes being one of the first responders when calamities strike,” he added.
Among the recipients of the assistance were the LGUs of Manila, Quezon City, Marikina, and Parañaque, as well as the provinces of Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Bulacan, Occidental Mindoro, La Union, and Laguna.
The relief items were distributed from PAGCOR’s warehouses in Imus, Cavite and Angat, Bulacan through local governments and logistics partners.
The agency also provided food and non-food packs to the ACT Teachers Partylist and Nanay Partylist for distribution to their constituents affected by the calamity.
“Our relief operations are ongoing and will continue in the coming days as we aim to reach out to more communities affected by the recent calamities,” said Tengco. “Hopefully, we would be able to bring not just food and other essentials but also much-needed hope and support.”
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), an estimated 5.29 million individuals or 1.46 million families from 17 regions have been affected by consecutive storms and the southwest monsoon
