Many areas in La Union and Pangasinan are experiencing widespread outages on Friday as Typhoon Emong destroyed power lines and caused massive floods, delaying repair works from the affected electricity service providers.
The National Electrification Administration (NEA) reported that Pangasinan I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (PANELCO 1) and La Union Electric Cooperative, Inc. (LUELCO) are struggling with total power failure as of 9:00 a.m. on July 25, 2025.
Partial power interruptions were also noted across 13 other electric cooperatives operating in Abra, Batangas, Benguet, Central Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur, Mountain Province, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Pampanga, Tablas Island in Romblon, and Zambales.
All affected community-owned electric utilities are serving a combined 509,282 households across Luzon. Estimated cost of damage to power distribution infrastructure also climbed to over P4-million, including those incurred in the wake of tropical cyclones ‘Dante’ and ‘Crising.’
“The outages were attributed to the unavailability of NGCP (National Grid Corporation of the Philippines) transmission lines, toppled poles, and heavy floods,” the NEA said in a social media post, citing a report from its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department.
“Damage assessment is ongoing, and clearing and restoration activities will proceed once conditions are deemed safe,” the state-owned corporation added.
In a series of advisories, the NGCP confirmed that some of its transmission lines sustained damages, affecting the services of several utilities operating in La Union and Pangasinan on Friday.
