33 OFWs home safe from Israel

Another batch of 33 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) caught in the armed conflict in Israel are safely back home, bringing to 1,468 the total number of OFWs repatriated since October 2023 from the war-torn West Asian country.

The group, along with two dependents, arrived Wednesday at the NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City and were assisted by a government team led by officials of the Department of Migrant Works (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

DMW chief Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, head of the welcoming party, assured the returning OFWs of state assistance and support to help them rebuild their lives at home.

“Our repatriation process is continuing for our countrymen affected by the conflict, and we are helping them upon instructions of President Marcos,” Cacdac said in Filipino.

The OFWs received immediate financial assistance under the DMW’s AKSYON Fund, the OWWA’s Emergency Repatriation Fund, plus additional cash aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The OFWs will get extra assistance through the National Reintegration Network, including retooling training under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and job opportunities to ensure they are able to return to normal life anew.
