Is buying a villa in southern Italy the next big celebrity move?

Italy’s southern gem, Puglia, is gaining attention from celebrities and creatives drawn to its slow-living charm, coastal beauty, and accessible real estate market.

Among the latest to make headlines is actress and entrepreneur Kylie Verzosa, who shared on Instagram that she had “bought a house in Italy.”

She was also tagged in a post by DJ and creative director Tomas Barfod, who shared photos of the villa with the caption, “We bought a villa,” tagging several others.

While no details were shared about the arrangement, the multiple tags have led some to wonder if the purchase was made through co-ownership or a timeshare model—a growing trend among international buyers.

Fractional ownership allows a group of individuals to co-invest in a property, splitting both costs and time spent in the home.

According to the international property portal Gate-away, co-ownership models are becoming increasingly popular in Italy, especially among younger foreign investors seeking vacation homes without full financial commitment.

Puglia’s real estate remains relatively affordable. As of June 2025, property prices average €1,430 per square meter, based on data from Immobiliare.it, one of Italy’s leading real estate websites.

Countryside villas, or masserie, can range from €120,000 to over €500,000 depending on size and location, as stated in listings on Idealista.it.

The region is also a rising hotspot for short-term rentals. Italian rental site SoloAffitti says villas in tourist areas like Ostuni and Lecce can yield seasonal returns of up to 10 percent, making them attractive not just as holiday retreats but also as potential income properties.
