MMDA, SMC start Commonwealth drainage repair to address flooding

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and San Miguel Corporation (SMC) are set to commence widening works on the drainage inlet on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City to address flooding in the area.

During the inspection conducted at the MRT-7 Batasan Station last Wednesday, agency officials led by MMDA Chairman Don Artes discovered that the water inlet had shrunk from its original size of 3 meters by 3 meters to almost 2 feet by 2 feet.

Artes said the agency wants to widen the existing steel-grating drop inlet in the area to intercept floodwater coming from IBP Road.

He said construction will begin on Thursday, with MRT-7 management doing the work for free.

The MMDA expressed gratitude to SMC, led by its Chairman and CEO Ramon Ang, for their willingness to help expedite the reconstruction of drainage inlets.

The agency stated that discipline remains an integral part of addressing flooding problems in Metro Manila, urging the public to segregate their waste properly.
