Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested two individuals and confiscated an estimated PHP121.4 million worth of substandard Apple products in Parañaque City as part of its intensified crackdown on illegal trade.
CIDG acting chief BGen. Romeo Macapaz identified the suspects only as “Crissa” and “Charles.” The two were apprehended on July 19 at Bay View, Garden Homes 3, Barangay Tambo, while selling unregistered Apple items—including iPhones, iWatches, and accessories—without required clearance from the National Telecommunications Commission and registration with the Department of Trade and Industry.
The seized items include 225 Apple iWatches, 531 MagSafe chargers, 4,580 AirPods, 2,652 charger adaptors, 6,664 charger sets, 1,033 iPhone accessories, 70 car chargers, 1,740 charging cords, 87 handheld fans, 77 hair dryers, 126 Beats Solo headphones, one iPhone 16, and 110 earphones.
Macapaz emphasized the government’s responsibility to protect consumers and promote ethical standards in commerce. He praised the CIDG Anti-Organized Crime Unit for its swift action in intercepting the illegal goods.
“This underscores our commitment to combating crime and upholding the law,” Macapaz said. “We urge the public to report illegal activities in their areas. Your CIDG will respond and act immediately.”
