Traffic at standstill: Habagat rains leave commuters stranded

Heavy southwest monsoon rains or ‘habagat’ left many commuters leaving or entering Metro Manila stranded on Monday evening as traffic stopped due to flash floods.

At terminals in SM North EDSA and Trinoma in Quezon City, the trips of jeepneys and UV Express vehicles were delayed amid major disruptions in traffic flow.

Affected routes included Novaliches Bayan, Marilao, Meycauayan, Fairview, Monumento, and Lagro.

Commuters at the EDSA Bus Carousel were also stranded, with queues stretching up to 500 meters.

Along Commonwealth Avenue, passengers bound for North Caloocan and San Jose del Monte, Bulacan were likewise stranded due to a shortage of vehicles and flooded roads.

Motorists on the southbound lanes of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) also faced heavy congestion as vehicles piled up amid flooding. 

Last year, thousands of motorists were stranded NLEX management closed several sections of the expressway due to severe flooding.
