The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued general flood advisories across eight regions on Monday afternoon amid relentless southwest monsoon or ‘habagat’ rains, which may persist over the next three days.
The flood warnings cover Metro Manila and all provinces in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and the Bicol Region.
This developed as PAGASA announced in its 5:00 p.m. weather forecast that it is closely monitoring two low pressure areas in Calayan, Cagayan and southeastern Luzon that already entered the Philippine area of responsibility.
The state weather bureau said Metro Manila remains under a heavier rainfall outlook estimated between 100 to 200 millimeters as well as the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, and Rizal.
Rains measuring 50 to 100 mm, meanwhile, are projected over Pangasinan, Tarlac, Laguna, Quezon and Occidental Mindoro.
In view of this development, several local government units (LGUs) have already issued class suspensions, so students and residents may avoid the risks of environmental hazards such as floods and landslides in affected localities.
