DOTr, DepEd, UK Embassy unveil plan for Education City

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Monday it signed an agreement with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the United Kingdom Embassy to develop a transit hub at the 13-hectare DepEd Complex in Taguig City.

The hub will connect with the Metro Manila Subway and the North-South Commuter Railway.

The Senate DepEd Transit Oriented Development (SEED) Project aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ease commuter travel, particularly for students, the DOTr said.

It aims to establish an “Education City” featuring a transport hub alongside green and educational spaces designed to promote public transport, walking, and cycling.

DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon asaid the initiative would serve as a model for future projects.

“It is important for the entire country because this project will pave the way for better projects in the future—not only transportation projects but also education projects,” Dizon said during the project signing with Education Secretary Sonny Angara and British Ambassador to the Philippines Laure Beaufils.

Dizon cited the significance of inter-agency collaboration and international partnerships, noting that “our partners will be critical to the success of very important projects.”

Angara said the SEED Project would be a catalyst for progress, especially in the Philippine transport sector.

“This project will have a catalytic effect not only on Taguig but definitely Philippine transportation. We have the DOTr to shepherd and speed up this project,” Angara said.
