APECO to develop eco-tourism park

The Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (APECO), backed by a combined development budget of P1.15 billion, is accelerating its plans to transform parcels 1 and 2 into a model for sustainable tourism and renewable energy in the country.

APECO president and chief executive Gil Taway said the agency is working closely with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) and the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DepDev) to develop parcel 2 in San Ildefonso Peninsula into an expansive eco-tourism destination.

The 12,242-hectare area, granted under a 2010 amendment law, will feature an eco-tourism park inspired by Canada’s Capilano Suspension Bridge. The park is slated to include villas, a cable car, and a revolving restaurant offering views of the Pacific Ocean and Sierra Madre mountain range.

Taway said the master plan, validated by DepDev, integrates tourism and clean energy components alongside industrial locators.

“We are pushing for a development that not only protects the environment but also ensures inclusive economic benefits for Indigenous Peoples,” Taway said.
