The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development is readying assistance to typhoon victims whose houses have either been damaged or destroyed due to the typhoon “Crising.”
In a statement on Sunday, Undersecretary for Disaster Response Henry Yap directed regional offices in the typhoon-affected areas to work closely with local government units and other government agencies for the delivery of post-disaster assistance.
He called on DHSUD’s key shelter agencies — the Pag-IBIG Fund, Social Housing Finance Corp., National Home Mortgage Finance Corp. and National Housing Authority — to also extend assistance to the typhoon victims.
“Per the directive of Secretary Ping (Jose Ramon Aliling), DHSUD’s key shelter agencies are to exhaust all ways on how to assist the typhoon victims, and to immediately implement the same at the soonest possible time,” he said.
“This may include amortization relief/breaks, community assistance on resettlement and project sites, provision of hygiene kits,” he added.
DHSUD cited DSWD’s Saturday report that a total of 276 houses were damaged by “Crising,” of which 34 were totally damaged, while 242 others were partially damaged.
As immediate assistance, DHSUD, in collaboration with partner-non-government organizations, can also deploy shelter-grade tents that may be used as temporary shelters by the victims.
Under National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Memorandum No. 05 Series of 2022, the DHSUD was tapped to lead the national government shelter cluster, tasked to provide post disaster housing assistance to victims of calamities.
