Malacañang has announced the approval of a revised schedule for former combatants of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to apply for membership of the Philippine National Police (PNP)
According to the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPLAPRU), the Intergovernmental Relations Body (IGRB) of the national government and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has put its stamp of approval on the new schedule.
Under the latest resolution of the National Police Commission (Napolcom), the application period is extended until June 8, 2027, subject to existing applicable rules and regulations, with no further extension.
“The Bangsamoro Government maintains that the five-year period should be reckoned not from the ratification of the BOL (Bangsamoro Organic Law), but from a reasonable point of implementation, considering that the administrative and regulatory framework necessary for the application of MILF and MNLF members was only put in place in 2022.” the Napolcom resolution read.
IGRB co-chairpersons Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman and Minister Mohagher Iqbal emphasized the importance of inclusive integration and the achievements of the IGRB, including partnerships between national and regional agencies, the transfer of government functions to the Bangsamoro government, and continued preparations for the upcoming Bangsamoro parliamentary elections. “Other IGR mechanisms, such as the Philippine Congress – Bangsamoro Parliament Forum (PCBPF), the Intergovernmental Energy Board (IEB), the Bangsamoro Sustainable Development Board (BSDB), and the Council of Leaders, likewise conducted their respective discussions and plans of action,” Pangandaman said.
