DSWD distributes over P3.6-m relief goods in Western Visayas amid ‘Crising’

ILOILO CITY — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Western Visayas ramped up relief distribution across the region, delivering more than P3.6 million worth of family food packs (FFPs) to families affected by heavy rains and flash floods triggered by the Southwest Monsoon and Tropical Depression “Crising.”

According to the Thursday report from the Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC), a total of 15,949 families or 68,103 individuals have been affected in various parts of the region.

These include Iloilo City; the towns of Leganes, Ajuy, and San Dionisio in Iloilo Province; the municipalities of Sibalom, Tobias Fornier, Laua-an, Culasi, and San Jose in Antique; Maayon and Cuartero in Capiz; and the cities of Bacolod, Talisay, Kabankalan, as well as the towns of Hinoba-an and Cauayan in Negros Occidental.

In response, DSWD Western Visayas provided P1.89 million worth of FFPs to Bacolod City and P1.69 million to Talisay City. In Iloilo Province, families in Leganes received P55,007.36 worth of food packs while those in Ajuy received P9,150.

To support sustained relief efforts, the regional field office has maintained a P157-million standby stockpile of food and non-food items ready for immediate deployment if needed.

The agency, led by OIC Regional Director Joselito G. Estember, continues to coordinate closely with local government units (LGUs) through its Disaster Response Management Division to monitor the situation and deliver appropriate interventions to affected communities.
