Actress and comedian Giselle Sanchez has admitted she regrets her decision to appear in the 2022 film Maid in Malacañang, reflecting on the political controversy surrounding the project.
In a recent interview, Sanchez said she failed to consider the wider implications of her role as former President Cory Aquino.
“Sana inisip ko rin yung bansa ko,” she said.
She also acknowledged that being an alumna of the University of the Philippines made her reflect more critically in hindsight. “
“Sana inisip ko nga naman na taga-UP ako,”she added.
Sanchez clarified that when she accepted the role, she treated it like any other job but later realized the importance of being mindful of the narratives promoted in films.
Maid in Malacañang, directed by Darryl Yap, drew public attention for its depiction of the Marcos family’s final days in Malacañang, with critics accusing it of historical revisionism.
Sanchez’s comments have since reignited discussions about the responsibility of artists in portraying sensitive periods of Philippine history.
