PH Embassy in Israel mourns Filipina killed by Iran missile

The Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv announced on Sunday evening the passing of a Filipina caregiver, who succumbed to injuries from a missile attack by Iran during its war with Israel in June.

In a statement, the Embassy said the 49-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Negros Occidental died on the morning of July 13, 2025.

She was identified as Leah Mosquera, who sustained severe injuries when an Iranian missile struck her apartment in Rehovot City—about 20 kilometers south of Tel Aviv—on June 15.

“Ms. Mosquera was rushed to Shamir Medical Center, where she underwent multiple surgeries and fought for her life at the Intensive Care Unit for several weeks,” the Embassy reported.

“During this time, she was lovingly cared for by her sister Joy, who also works here in Israel. Joy shared the sad news of her sister’s passing and consented to the release of the information to the public,” it added.

The Embassy extended its deepest condolences to Mosquera family and thanked the first responders, doctors, nurses, the priests who visited and prayed, as well as the Filipino community who offered comfort and support for the victim.

“Lovingly called Ate Leah by her friends, she would have celebrated her 50th birthday this 29 July,” its statement noted.

The Embassy said it is now working on the repatriation arrangements and provision of all necessary assistance for the Mosqueras. It honored ‘Leah’ for her contributions through her many years of working in Israel.

“She dedicated herself to supporting her family back home — an enduring symbol of the courage and sacrifice of overseas Filipino workers around the world,” the Embassy said.

“As we mourn her passing and remember her life, the Embassy also renews its call for the protection of civilians, including foreign workers, during times of conflict. May Ate Leah’s memory be a blessing,” it added.
