Every hopia tells a story

If you needed a sign to stock up on hopia, this is it.

Eng Bee Tin is taking its National Hopia Day celebration to a whole new level this July. And by “new level,” we mean nationwide.

The 113-year-old brand that turned mung bean pastries into a cultural staple is celebrating its 2nd National Hopia Day with discounts, pop-ups, and even a hopia campaign inspired by Manila’s most colorful mayor.

For the first time, National Hopia Day will be felt across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. It’s not just a Manila thing anymore. Hopia love is now officially a nationwide event.

Every Monday this month (July 14, 21, and 28) hopia fans can enjoy a 10 percent discount on select favorites. But if you want to go big, block off July 18 to 20. Eng Bee Tin branches across the country will be offering a 20 percent discount on participating items. Yes, it’s real. No, you don’t need a voucher. Just bring your appetite.

The celebration doesn’t stop at discounts. Eng Bee Tin is staging pop-up events at Robinsons Galleria Cebu from July 16 to 20 and Gaisano Mall Davao from July 23 to 27. Expect freebies, flavors, and possibly a few purple pandas.

Now, this is where it gets interesting. One of the main highlights this year is the launch of Hopia Etneb—a P20 hopia deal that nods to the brand’s Manila roots. The idea came from former (and now current) Mayor Isko Moreno, who suggested the campaign to Eng Bee Tin COO Gerik Chua years ago. The goal? Make hopia more accessible, especially in a time when inflation makes even comfort food feel like a splurge.

“This isn’t just about hopia,” said Gerik. “It’s about honoring our roots, celebrating our community, and recognizing how food brings us together.”

What’s a celebration without some fun? The Hopia Hakot Challenge returns this year, giving fans the chance to scoop up P15,000 worth of Eng Bee Tin goodies in one thrilling grab. New and limited-edition hopia flavors are also in the mix, with Filipino twists that push tradition in the tastiest way possible.

“National Hopia Day is our thank you to the Filipino people,” said operations executive Gerald Chua. “They’re more than customers. They’re family.”

“Every hopia tells a story,” added finance manager Roche Chua. “This month, we’re celebrating all of them.”

From nostalgic bites in Binondo to bold flavors in Davao, National Hopia Day 2025 is shaping up to be the country’s sweetest celebration of heritage, unity, and bean-filled goodness.

Follow Eng Bee Tin on social media for the latest updates. Then go out and grab a hopia, or ten. This only happens once a year.
