DOTr, LTO launch digital driver’s license renewal

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon on Thursday spearheaded the launch of the online renewal of driver’s licenses made available through the eGovPH app.

Dizon said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. instructed him and Department of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Aguda to integrate the online renewal of licenses into the 72 other online government services and transactions.

“Payment can also be made through e-wallet or bank transaction,” Dizon said at a media briefing at the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

He added that the online registration would no longer require a physical medical examination and that a telemedicine medical exam is accepted.

“This is a better alternative for going to LTO offices since you don’t need to shell out money for transportation to our offices and don’t even need to queue in any license renewal offices,” LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza II said in a statement.

To avail of the LTO digital transaction, a license holder must download and install eGovPh app in their smartphones, which is available both in App Store and Google Play.

The LTO explained that successful transaction means the driver’s license is already renewed, noting that an electronic driver’s license is also automatically generated and can be viewed in the eGov App. Dizon likewise emphasized that an e-license is valid as the physical card.
