The Metro Rail Translit-3 and Light Rail Transit-2 rail lines opened dedicated student lanes at each station to provide smoother processing for students eligible for a 50-percent fare discount.
The initiative follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive for the MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 lines to eliminate long queues and enhance passenger convenience, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said in a social media post.
DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon cited the government’s commitment to ensuring efficient passenger movement at transport hubs through effective platform management, particularly for students seeking fare discounts.
Dizon said the President had given clear instructions to ease the lives of commuters, emphasizing the importance of simplifying student discount verification to prevent queues and ensure a swift flow of student passengers, helping them avoid being late for school.
The Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), which operates the LRT-1 line, said it would implement queuing systems to manage passenger flow and minimize delays for students availing discounts.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr), acting on President Marcos’s orders, instructed the three major rail lines on June 20, 2025 to increase student discounts from 20 percent to 50 percent, effective until 2028.
