Eala teams up with German Lys in Wimbledon doubles vs US-Brazil pair of Gleason-Martins

Philippine pride Alex Eala and her partner, Germany’s No. 2 player Eva Lys, will have a doubles’ encounter a 7:30 p.m. Thursday (Philippine time) against the replacement pair of Quinn Gleason of the United States and Ingrid Martins of Brazil in the ongoing 2025 Wimbledon Open in Great Britain.

The 20-year-old Eala is coming off a loss to defending champion Barbora Krejcikova, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, in the women’s singles opening round on Tuesday night.

Eala, now ranked world No. 56 in singles, is now at a career-high no. 155 in the doubles, a big leap from her 456th ranking last May.

The uptick in Eala’s status in the doubles got a boost from her quarterfinal finish in the WTA 1000 Italian Open.

That was when Eala teamed up with American superstar Coco Gauff, along with  her second-round stint in the French Open with with Renata Zarazua of Mexico.

Lys hardly plays doubles and has a world ranking of 1,486. She did recently join the doubles event of the French Open in May and the WTA 500 German Open in June, where she was eliminated in the opening rounds.

The 23-year-old Lys earlier bowed to Czech netter Linda Noskova, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, in the second round of the women’s singles.
