Heavy rains caused by a low-pressure area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon left several commuters stranded across Metro Manila on Thursday morning.
In Pasig City, passengers holding umbrellas lined up along Ortigas Avenue and Ortigas Avenue Extension, and were seen struggling to find available rides.
Similar scenes were reported along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
Flooding was also reported in several areas.
As of 6:46 a.m., the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said gutter-deep floods were observed on the westbound lane of Quirino Avenue (Guazon), while above-gutter-deep flooding occurred at Andrew Avenue corner Tramo Street eastbound.
Despite the floodwaters, all affected roads remained passable to all types of vehicles.
The state weather bureau PAGASA said that heavy rains were expected to persist due to the LPA and monsoon, bringing 50 to 100 mm of rainfall over Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro from Wednesday to Thursday evening.
Similar rainfall levels were also forecast for Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, and Ilocos Norte.
Due to the threat of continuous heavy rains, some classes in several cities and municipalities on Thursday were suspended as a precaution.
