Manila Vice Mayor Chi Atienza vowed that the city council would focus on legislation in support of the new administration’s ‘Bilis Kilos’ platforms.
In a press briefing, the city council’s presiding officer stressed the importance of passing ordinances that uplift the morale of residents coupled with the priority programs of Mayor Francisco Moreno Domagoso.
“I want them to feel that we are working so that they will feel that there is hope because that is what I noticed when I went around Manila, there is a loss of hope especially in the sectors that I want to represent,” she said on Wednesday.
Atienza underscored the need for programs that give a sense of hope to Manileños, especially to the minority groups who felt that they were “unseen, unheard, and used.”
She reaffirmed her election promise to stand up for the marginalized sectors which includes senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), solo parents, Muslim communities, the LGBTQIA+ community, workers, and the youth.
“If our mayor has quick action programs, it is only right that we in the council also take quick action… I want the people to feel that this administration is united to bring quality service to them,” she said.
She added that Manileños can expect a brand of service that is true explaining that she is not a natural politician.
Atienza urged the city council to shy away from past politics and work toward participatory and inclusive governance.
Despite being the daughter of former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza, she never imagined that she would be in the same chamber where she once sat as a young girl.
