MMDA partners with PNOC for clean energy goals

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has partnered with the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) to implement a solar photovoltaic system at two MMDA facilities, aiming to reduce electricity consumption.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes expressed his gratitude to PNOC, highlighting their shared commitment to advancing energy resilience and sustainability in public service under the vision of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“Together, we are embarking on projects that represent our collective goal for a cleaner and more energy-efficient future,” said Artes.

The first initiative is a proposed ground-mounted solar PV system at the MMDA Carmona Development in Cavite, which has been transformed from a previous sanitary landfill into a center for training, disaster response, and environmental sustainability.

The second initiative involves the installation of a rooftop solar PV system at the MMDA Annex Building in Pasig City, which aligns with the agency’s green building initiative.

The MMDA Head Office is already recognized as a Building Ecological Responsive Design Excellence (BERDE)-certified facility, reflecting sustainable design and operation.

The MMDA aims to achieve a BERDE 3-star rating for the Annex Building to further strengthen its commitment to climate-responsive public infrastructure.

Artes also thanked PNOC for collaborating with the agency in creating a cleaner, greener, and more resilient future for Metro Manila under the government’s Bagong Pilipinas program.

Oliver Butalid, PNOC’s President and Chief Executive Officer, said the partnership supports their promotion of renewable energy and energy self-sufficiency in government operations.

He assured that by utilizing the solar PV system, MMDA would achieve significant savings on electricity costs while contributing to the government’s goal of increasing renewable energy usage.

He was happy to collaborate with MMDA, emphasizing its importance as a government agency responsible for critical infrastructure.

The ceremonial signing of the memorandum of understanding took place on Monday and was attended by MMDA Deputy Chairman Usec. Frisco San Juan Jr., General Manager Usec. Procopio Lipana, and representatives from PNOC.
