PH, US armies test fire HIMARS during joint drills

The Philippine Army’s (PA) Artillery Regiment and the U.S. Army Pacific’s 25th Infantry Division on Monday jointly test fired two High Mobility Rocket Systems (HIMARS) missiles during “Operation Spartan Strike” in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija.

In a joint statement on Tuesday, the PA and the US Army said the exercise was intended to “enhance interoperability and tactical proficiency, synchronize kinetic effects in a controlled environment and contribute to the development of fire support strategies while fostering collaboration.”

“We’re strengthening the partnership with the Philippine Artillery Regiment and 1st Multi Domain, and 53FA for future exercise which is further establishing deterrence in the Indo-Pacific.” Col. Alex Mullin of US 1st Multi-Domain Task Force (1MDTF) said.

“It can be noted that the truck-mounted HIMARS can strike targets beyond the current capabilities of the Philippine Army. It can also move around the battlefield, making it a tough target to find.” Army Spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said.

HIMARS is touted as a full-spectrum, combat-proven, all-weather, 24/7, lethal, and responsive, wheeled precision strike weapons system.

The missile system is designed to support joint early and forced entry expeditionary operations with high-volume destructive, suppressive, and counter-battery fires.
