Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed on Monday his intention to apply for the position of Ombudsman. Ombudsman Samuel Martirez is set to retire on July 27.
“I think I have a lot to offer there,” he told reporters.
He said that he will be submitting his application before the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) by Friday.
Remula explained that the council can properly evaluate his application when asked if there is a possible conflict of interest.
He disclosed that he had also informed President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. of his intention but did not elaborate on the latter’s response.
If appointed, Remulla will serve for seven years or until 2032.
