President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday sent encouraging words to Filipina tennis player, Alexandra Eala, following her record-breaking run at the Lexus Eastbourne Open, where she became the first Filipino to reach a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 250 singles final.
“Tuloy ang laban, Alex!” Marcos said in a social media post that echoed the sentiment of millions of Filipinos rallying behind the 20-year-old. “You’ve made us all proud! Keep going, your best is yet to come.”
Eala settled for a runner-up finish at the recently concluded Eastbourne Open in the United Kingdom after a tough loss against 19-year-old Australian rising star Maya Joint in the finals on June 28, 2025. It was a three-set match that lasted over two hours.
“We all watched you make history as the first Filipino to reach a WTA 250 singles final. That alone is already a victory for our country and for the millions of Filipinos who stand proudly behind you,” President Marcos added, acknowledging the magnitude of Eala’s feat on the global tennis stage.
