METROPOLITAN Manila Development Authority chairman Romando Artes on Friday commended the Makati City police for the arrest of three suspects in the theft of fiber optic cables used for the No Contact Apprehension Policy along EDSA-Guadalupe footbridge in Makati City.
The theft occurred on June 20 but the MMDA discovered it three days later after the disabled CCTV cameras began emitting a humming sound and were subsequently disconnected. The stolen cables were allegedly sold to several junkshops for about P104,000.
Investigation revealed that the suspects returned to the crime scene to steal more fiber optic cables but failed to notice patrolling police officers at the overpass who eventually captured them. Recovered from the suspects were assorted pieces of electrical wires and cutting tools.
