The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and GCash, a leading finance super app, are working together to streamline identity verification for e-wallet accounts, making digital financial services more accessible to Filipinos.
The initiative allows Filipinos to use their National ID – whether card, paper or digital – to verify GCash accounts and access financial services.
The National ID system serves as a universal proof of identity. Over 92 million Filipinos have registered for the ID, with more than 50 million delivered so far, according to the PSA.
Integrating eVerify into the GCash app allows millions of National ID holders to authenticate their accounts and securely access financial services. GCash is currently the largest mobile wallet in the country, used by eight out of 10 Filipinos.
“The National ID and its authentication services ensure transactions are more seamless, secure and inclusive,” said Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PSA undersecretary, national statistician and civil registrar general.
“By integrating the National ID with financial institutions like GCash, the PSA empowers more Filipinos with access to essential financial services,” said Mapa.
Ren-Ren Reyes, president and chief executive of G-Xchange Inc., GCash’s mobile wallet operator, said the cooperation would strengthen digital financial inclusion.
“This collaboration is a testament to GCash’s commitment to making financial services more accessible,” Reyes said.
“By allowing users to verify their accounts with their National ID, we are breaking barriers and ensuring more Filipinos can seamlessly access safe and reliable digital transactions,” he said.
The eVerify integration speeds up the Know Your Customer (KYC) process, strengthens fraud prevention and ensures accurate identity validation, making financial services more inclusive, the statement said.
