The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday, March 9, reported that the Central Visayas crime rate declined by 41.50 percent last February, citing effective law enforcement strategies.
In a news release, PNP Central Visayas Director Brigadier General Redrico Maranan said a total of 179 crimes were recorded in February, a decrease of 127 or 41.50 percent from the 306 recorded in February 2024.
This was on top of the 66-percent drop in January—from 767 in 2024 to 256 in 2025.
Maranan also reported a 41.66-percent drop in shooting incidents from 36 percent in January to 21 in February.
The figures are based on the PNP Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System.
The PNP Central Visayas chief attributed the downtrend in the crime rate to their enhanced checkpoint operations, increased police visibility, active area patrolling and intensified law enforcement activities in the said region.
Maranan also said that his regional office developed a comprehensive peace and order operational framework focused on maintaining peace and order.
“This strategic approach prioritizes effective police presence, quick response time and operational countermeasures, with robust support from local communities,” Maranan said.
