THE Department of National Defense (DND) and Canada’s International Security Policy on Tuesday met in Manila to discuss cooperation on Women, Peace and Security.
The meeting transpired on the sidelines of the 2024 International Conference on Women, Peace, and Security (ICWPS), between DND assistant secretary Arsenio Andolong and Canadian director general for International Security Policy, Maj, Gen. Greg Smith, MSM, CD.
Discussions included the status of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) officers in Canadian military training courses and the ongoing collaborations on WPS initiatives, highlighting the importance of women’s involvement in military operations and leadership roles.
Both sides also explored ways to improve training opportunities, especially for personnel involved in humanitarian assistance and disaster response. Andolong expressed appreciation for Canada’s support of the Philippines’ WPS agenda, emphasizing the value of partnerships in addressing gender-related issues in security and peace- building.
