TAGUM CITY—Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib selected Board member Nicandro Suaybaguio as his running mate in his re-election bid for the 2025 National and Local Elections.
Jubahib made the announcement in a press conference on Thursday, saying he intends to finish his term as governor of northern Davao. The confirmation settled political speculations that he would be running for another position.
“I know there are a lot of rumors circulating around. So, to clarify the matters once and for all, I am running again as Governor and will finish my term,” Jubahib said. He expressed willingness to complete his programs and continue serving the people of Davao del Norte.
Jubahib also urged his constituents to vote for his running mate and other members of his slate to ensure effective and efficient public service.
“I hope, if the people will still give me the chance to serve them, I hope they will also give me a chance to work with a Vice Governor, who can help me serve the people in their best interest and not a Vice Governor who will only work for his own interest,” the seasoned governor said.
Jubahib and incumbent Vice Governor De Carlo Uy are known political rivals. Uy briefly took over the governor position when Jubahib was suspended for 90 days by the Office of the President last April for grave abuse of authority.
After serving his two-month suspension, Jubahib received another 30-day suspension for attending a protest rally against the Northern Davao Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Nordeco) in June. Jubahib resumed his tenure as governor in July.
The governor said he will announce his complete slate—including mayors, vice mayors, and board members—when he files his certificate of candidacy this October.
