The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has unveiled a mural on the facade of its EDSA building, featuring stars from the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) in celebration of its 50th anniversary.
In collaboration with iAcademy students, murals showcasing posters from MMFF films over the past five decades will be painted along EDSA to highlight Philippine cinema history.
MMDA Acting Chairman Attorney Don Artes said the murals aim to evoke nostalgia through hand-painted movie posters. Other proposed locations for the murals include a 653-meter stretch of EDSA from Buendia to Ayala.
Artes also announced the launch of “Sinesigla sa Singkwenta,” a series of events celebrating the MMFF’s legacy in Philippine cinema.
The unveiling event, which took place on Sept. 19 at the MMDA Auditorium, includes key initiatives such as a Classic Posters Exhibition and a mural project led by Phonsie Castaneda and artists AG Sano and Sim Tolentino. The launch featured live mural painting, a display of posters, and speeches from industry figures.
Artes emphasized the festival’s significance, saying, “As we celebrate 50 years of the Metro Manila Film Festival, we are not only looking back at our history but also charting the future of Philippine cinema.”
“The murals showcasing posters from MMFF films over the past five decades will be painted along EDSA to give commuters a glimpse of Philippine cinema history,” he added.
The event was attended by members of the Actor’s Guild of the Philippines (AKTOR), the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), MOWELFUND, and the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), alongside other industry representatives.
