BPO companies told to boost cybersecurity

The Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP) on Thursday stressed the need for the IT-business process management industry to collaborate on solutions that bolster cybersecurity across subsectors and business process outsourcing firms.

CCAP president Mickey Ocampo urged BPO companies to prioritize cybersecurity within their operational strategies, saying continuous investment in security technologies is essential for maintaining global competitiveness and trust.

“Continuous engagement and investment in innovative security technologies are critical for maintaining global competitiveness and trust,” he said.

Ocampo underscored the critical role of digital trust in the industry, adding that BPO firms should earn clients’ trust by demonstrating transparent, accountable and reliable cybersecurity practices.

Warnings about cybersecurity gaps in the Philippines have been present since 2022. A United States Agency for International Development (USAID) report highlighted the potential risk for up to 75 percent of the BPO segment if cyberattacks and cyber frauds are not addressed. It also emphasized the shortage of cybersecurity professionals in the country.

CCAP implemented a system for its members to reference online fraud-related issues, reviewed and approved by the National Privacy Commission (NPC).

CCAP will organize the Digital Trust Summit in Mandaluyong City on Sept. 16 to provide participants with the necessary tools and knowledge to address trust and risk in the digital age.
