LTO flags wayward motorcycle rider for vlogging at SLEX

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Thursday issued a show-cause order against a rider, who deliberately entered the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) despite knowing that his motorcycle was not allowed under the rules.

The rider was identified to be from Quezon City and the video he uploaded is now a piece of evidence in the conduct of the investigation.

“As the identified rider and registered owner of the identified motorcycle, you are directed to show cause in writing why you should not be administratively charged for disregarding traffic sign, reckless driving, and why your driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle in connection with the above-stated matter,” the order read.

The rider was directed to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division, Law Enforcement Service on Sept. 16 and bring all the registration documents of his motor vehicle. The LTO placed the driver’s license and motorcycle unit under alarm pending the result of the probe.

Based on the existing rule, a motorbike under 400cc is strictly prohibited along the expressway. The rider was aware that his motorcycle was only 250cc, and even said in the vlog that he would test if he would be allowed to enter the expressway, the LTO said.

The rider uploaded his illegal action on social media that went viral as netizens called him out for blatantly disregarding the law. Several netizens even appealed to the LTO to take action.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said he immediately ordered an investigation, prompting Renante MIlitante, head of the LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division, to summon the individual.

“This is a clear violation of the rules and regulations of the expressways, which were made for the safety of not only motorcycle riders, but also other motorists who use the expressways,” Mendoza said.

“The arrogance shown by this rider is a proof of lack of discipline. This will now be the subject of the investigation on whether or not he will still enjoy the privilege of being issued with a driver’s license,” he added.

The LTO chief warned that failure to appear and submit his written answer would compel the agency to resolve the matter based on the available evidence on record.
