President Marcos emphasized Friday the need for continued national and local government coordination to address the impacts of severe tropical storm ‘Enteng.’
He highlighted that the storm affected areas beyond Rizal, including Northern Luzon, and stressed the urgency of new strategies for flood control.
“We just did a quick briefing on Enteng’s effects and the responses of various agencies,” President Marcos said.
“We’re dealing with a large volume of water that overwhelmed our existing flood control systems, which are no longer sufficient,” he added.
The President called for improved strategies, including building impounding projects upstream to prevent water from reaching low-lying areas. He acknowledged the need for both immediate relief and long-term planning to adapt to changing weather patterns.
Mr. Marcos directed the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to continue relief efforts, with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) supporting local governments.
Meanwhile, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will handle clearing operations.
The President also highlighted the need for updated flood control plans to address new weather challenges and ensure preparedness for future storms.
The storm affected approximately 8,036 families or 31,677 individuals in Rizal province. The DSWD has provided P11.62 million in aid and P134.40 million in standby funds and supplies for the Calabarzon region.
