National Artist for Film Kidlat Tahimik launched his latest art installation at Mactan-Cebu International Airport on Aug. 22.
The launch included the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) and the Aboitiz GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation.
The exhibition features several artworks and pieces that were also part of the National Museum of Anthropology’s “INDIO-GENIUS: 500 Taon ng Labanang Kultural (1521-2021)” exhibit.
NMP Director General Jeremy Barns shared that Tahimik’s exhibition is part of the museum’s aim to transform commonly visited places like airports into cultural spaces.
“By extending beyond the walls of the museum and bringing art into public spaces, we open access to all, ensuring that our cultural narratives continue to inspire, educate, and provoke thought among the widest possible audience,” Barns said.
The NMP stated that the installation will be part of a larger exhibition set to launch in November.
