President Ferdinand Marcos agreed to the franchise renewal bid of Leyte II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (LEYECO II) to secure power supply in parts of Leyte.

Under Republic Act 12017, signed into law on August 9, 2024, the state grants LEYECO II the franchise to “construct, install, establish, operate, own, manage and maintain in the public interest and for commercial purposes, a distribution system for the conveyance of electric power to the end-users in the City of Tacloban and the Municipalities of Babatngon and Palo, Province of Leyte.”

In 2022, LEYECO II was recognized by the National Electrification Administration as one of the top electric cooperatives in the country, noted for its “AAA” rating and successful rural electrification efforts.

Additionally, LEYECO II is known for offering some of the lowest power rates in the region.
