Belmonte improves education assistance for Quezon City scholars

Quezon City expanded its scholarship program, offering increased financial grants and more opportunities for students, Mayor Joy Belmonte announced on Friday.

Under the new program, Grade 12 scholars will receive annual grants of P20,000, up from the previous P4,000. Online applications for new scholars will start on August 5.

“We want to strengthen our city programs that have a lasting impact on the lives of our youth. The expansion of the current scholarship program offers various opportunities for thousands of QCitizens who wish to study or go back to school,” Belmonte stated.

“Providing more funds to our scholarship program is a necessary and sound investment for the city’s future,” the mayor added.

A new ordinance broadens the scholarship program for senior high school students, introducing subcategories for academics, specialized tracks, athletics and the arts, and youth leadership, similar to those available at the tertiary level.

The stipend for tertiary scholars will also increase, with academic, athletics and arts, and youth leader scholars receiving P25,000 annually, up from P4,000. Continuing education and vocational course scholars will see their stipend rise from P6,000 to P10,000.

Since taking office in 2019, Quezon City under the Belmonte administration supported 31,120 scholars, demonstrating the city’s commitment to providing sustainable educational opportunities for all QCitizens.

The new ordinance also introduces the QC Excel Scholarship for tertiary students, aimed at cultivating a pool of young leaders and a workforce to support local government initiatives.

Belmonte urged aspiring scholars to secure their QCitizen ID, a primary requirement to avail of social services, including the scholarship program.

Detailed application requirements and other information are available on the official Facebook page of the Quezon City Youth Development Office and the Quezon City Government Website.
