The Luzon and National Capital Region leg of the 2024 Philippine Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Games officially commenced on Sunday at Cavite State University.
AFP Public Affairs Office Chief Colonel Xerxes Trinidad said that cadets from the Philippine Army, Philippine Navy, and Philippine Air Force from different higher education institutions in Luzon will showcase their skills in 14 sports events of the said competition.
Marathon champion Richard Solano lit the cauldron during the opening ceremony while participants recited the oath of sportsmanship.
A silent drill was also demonstrated by personnel of the Philippine Marine Corps during the opening ceremony.
1,800 Philippine Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) cadets from various colleges and universities joined the said activity.
Bacolod City hosted the Visayas leg last May 26 to June 1, while the Mindanao leg took place in Zamboanga City from June 23 to 29.
The National Finals are scheduled for August 18 to 24 in Indang, Cavite.
“The AFP is committed to the success of the ROTC games that aim to highlight sports development, discover new talents, and promote the ROTC program, which also endeavors to hone discipline and nationalism among the youth,” Trinidad said.
Anchored on the theme, “Husay ng ROTC, Husay ng Kabataan” the competition aims to highlight and develop the youth’s skills and talents in sports, as well as to promote the ROTC.
