The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) advises the public that some coastal areas have tested positive for paralytic shellfish poison (PSP) or toxic red tide, exceeding safe levels for human consumption.
These include the coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol, Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur and the coastal waters of San Benito in Surigao del Norte.
All types of shellfish and alamang (shrimp fry) collected from these areas are unsafe for human consumption. Fish, squid, shrimp, and crab from these areas are safe to eat provided they are fresh, thoroughly washed, and internal organs such as gills and intestines are removed before cooking.
Some areas free of toxic red tide include Manila Bay; Coastal waters of Cavite,Pangasinan: Mariculture areas in Infanta; coastal waters of Bolinao, Anda, Alaminos, Sual, Wawa, and Bani; La Union, mariculture areas in Rosario and Sto. Tomas; Pampanga; Zambales, Masinloc Bay; Quezon, Pagbilao Bay, Pagbilao, and coastal waters of Walay and Padre Burgos; and Palawan, among others
