Shell Pilipinas Corp. aims to retain its market leadership in the bitumen business this year, banking on the growth of the economic growth and the booming road construction industry.
Shell Pilipinas country manager for construction and road sector Allan Canedo said the company captured 41 percent of the total bitumen products that arrived in the Philippines in the first quarter of 2024.
Canedo said the company cornered 33 percent of the country’s total bitumen imports in 2023 with bulk of the supply coming from Singapore.
“Based on import data that we got from (Bureau of) Customs, the last quarter we were able to get 41 percent of the market. Forty-one percent of the product that arrived in the Philippines,” he said.
Canedo said they are looking at a double-digit volume growth for Shell bitumen this year.
