President Marcos on Thursday distributed P60 million in financial assistance to farmers and fishermen impacted by El Niño in Davao the Davao region.
In separate events, President Marcos allocated P10 million each to Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, and Davao Oriental in Tagum City, P19.52 million to Davao del Sur, and P10 million to Davao Occidental in Digos City.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the hardships faced by the agricultural sector.
“There’s nothing heavier than witnessing plants slowly dying or fish ponds drying up because of intense heat.,” President Marcos said, noting the region’s progress since his last visit.
He recognized the P50 million loss incurred by over 1,000 families in 16 barangays, pledging ongoing assistance.
“You are the foundation of our country’s progress, that’s why we will not stop supporting all of you,” he added.
The assistance package included financial aid, agricultural machinery, and rice from Speaker Martin Romualdez. Specifically, P15 million in food packs and P 10,000 for each of the 10,000 beneficiaries were distributed.
In Davao del Norte, P10 million worth of aid included rice combine harvesters, floating tillers, walk-behind transplanters, and four-wheel tractors.
Fisherfolk received 30 fishing boats with additional support for aquaculture and mangrove planting.
