Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista graced the Maritime Industry Authority’s (MARINA) golden anniversary celebration, highlighting the agency’s pivotal role in ensuring that the Philippine maritime sector is safe and sustainable.
The transport chief said the MARINA must keep up with sector’s technological advancements, safety standards and the country’s maritime environmental needs to ensure the sector’s sustainability.
“We must continue to address the evolving needs of the maritime industry. This includes embracing technology, enhancing safety standards, and promoting environmental sustainability,” Sec. Bautista said.
He also acknowledged Filipino seafarers, who serve as the backbone and lifeblood of the industry.
“It is also impossible to talk about MARINA without acknowledging the backbone of our maritime sector—the Filipino seafarers. They are the lifeblood of the industry.”
